Whether you’ve captured a building, a sculpture, or what you ate for lunch, it’s natural to want to share it with others. That’s why Scaniverse includes a variety of ways to share, such as sending your scan in a message or publishing it to Sketchfab.
Over time, we’ve received many suggestions for ways we could improve sharing. Thank you for sending these our way! We’ve listened carefully, and the result is Post to Scaniverse, a new sharing option that provides fast, easily-accessible sharing directly from the app. Try it out today by pressing Share > Post to Scaniverse from any scan or see it in action below:
View scans from anywhere
When you post a scan, it can be viewed directly in the app or on any device with a web browser. Whether someone has an iPhone, Android device, Mac, or PC, they’ll be able to view your scans at the same level of quality as in the app.
Fast to share, fast to view
Nobody likes loading bars, so we’ve prioritized making both posting and viewing scans fast. This includes compressing scan geometry to reduce data transfer, progressively loading textures so you can interact with the scan even before the full-res texture has downloaded, and distributing scans via a CDN so the data is delivered to you quickly and reliably. This adds up to scans that usually load faster than you can say “Scaniverse.”
Public or Unlisted — the choice is yours
Sometimes you want to share your creations with the world. Other times, you want to limit access to a particular person or group. When posting to Scaniverse, it’s your choice. Each scan you share can be marked Public (discoverable by everyone and shown on your profile) or Unlisted (only viewable with a direct link). And if you change your mind, you can change the visibility of a scan later.
Explore the Scaniverse
We wanted to create a safe and inclusive community of 3D scanners — one where we can appreciate each other’s work and grow our scanning skills together. Press Explore the Scaniverse at the top of the sharing tab to see a feed of scans that have been shared publicly by members of the community. Swipe left across the bottom of the screen to go to the next scan or right to go back. Though the feed is still quite simple, we plan to add new ways to explore and connect in the future.
Sharing optional
Finally, we realize that sharing isn’t for everyone — and that’s completely fine. Scaniverse is still the same great 3D lidar scanner whether or not you decide to create an account and share. And just as before, all scan data is processed and stored locally on your device to maximize privacy.
