    • We’ve added an option to save the raw data with your scans. This allows you to reprocess them with different settings at any time and to take advantage of future improvements in Scaniverse.
    • To enable this, turn the Save Raw Data option on in settings or after processing a scan.
    • Reprocess a scan by opening it, tapping the (…) icon, then tapping Reprocess scan.

  • Reversible video animations
    • Animations can now be run in both directions (e.g. clockwise or counter-clockwise rotation).

  • Share unlimited scans to Sketchfab for free more easily
    • Free Sketchfab accounts allow an unlimited number of models to be posted as long as they’re publicly downloadable.
    • Prior versions of Scaniverse did not automatically make scans downloadable when using the Upload Draft option, limiting you to 1 free model per month unless you changed this in the Sketchfab UI. This is now fixed. No user action is required.

    • Mesh simplification is now enabled by default.

  • Measurement
    • Measure distances in your scan by pressing the Measure button.
    • Share measurements as an image.
  • Round cropping
    • Switch between rectangular and cylindrical cropping with the new shape control at the bottom of the cropping screen (press Edit > Crop in the viewer to crop).
  • Pause/resume scanning
    • Added a pause button that appears while your scan is in progress.
    • Pressing it pauses the scan – no data will be captured until you resume scanning by pressing the button again.
    • We automatically pause if Scaniverse is sent to the background while scanning.
  • Scaniverse folder
    • Added a Scaniverse folder to make it easier to transfer exported models to your computer using iTunes or Finder.
    • After selecting an export format, press Save to Files, then Save. Connect your iPhone or iPad to your computer, then copy the model from the Scaniverse folder using iTunes or Finder.
    • Note that when copying models to a Mac, it’s usually easier to use AirDrop instead.

Version 1.4.0 (May 13, 2021)

  • Increased maximum scan area
    • You can now create larger scans, limited only by the available disk space on your device.
    • Scaniverse buffers just over 100 MB of data per minute - so if you have 10 GB free on your device, you can scan continuously for nearly 100 minutes. Most of this space is freed once the scan is processed.
  • Better resolution for small objects
    • Added a 3mm (⅛ inch) reconstruction resolution at Ultra quality.
    • To get the best resolution when scanning objects, decrease the LiDAR range. You can do this by pressing the Range button and adjusting the slider to a distance that lets you capture the object but not unwanted background.
  • Scanning visualization improvements
    • More detail is now visible in the preview while scanning.
    • Level of detail scales with the size of the scene being scanned.

Version 1.3.2 (May 3, 2021)

  • Autofocus
    • We’ve enabled autofocus while scanning.
    • This will lead to sharper textures, particularly when scanning objects from a close distance or in low-light situations.
  • Bug fixes
    • Fixed a bug where scans captured over a long period of time could have holes in the mesh due to some input frames being dropped. Thanks to @edemaistre for reporting this!
    • Removed the neighborhood name from the scan location. We received reports that these could be inaccurate. Point of interest, city, and state or province are still included.

    • Save location with your scans.

    • All location data is stored locally and is only shared if you choose to share it.

    • Export point clouds in the LAS format.
    • If the scan has a saved location, the exported file will be georeferenced.

Version 1.2.0 (February 19, 2021)

  • Added the ability to export high-resolution color point clouds.
    • These can be loaded into CloudCompare, MeshLab, Blender, or any other application that supports the PLY format.
    • To export a point cloud, select Share > Export Model > PLY from the viewer.
    • Please note that scans captured with earlier versions of Scaniverse do not have per-vertex color information, so only new scans will export with color points.
  • Improved mesh quality, particularly for thin and small objects.
  • Fixed an error in how we were calculating the grid size. In some cases, the number shown in the UI (e.g. 15mm) may increase a bit compared to earlier versions, but the model is still being processed at the same resolution as before.

  • Added a collection of filters so that you can easily apply visual styles to your scans. To access these filters, press Edit > Filter when viewing a scan.

  • Crop and rotate your scans by pressing Edit > Crop from the viewer. This allows you to remove unwanted clutter from your scan.
  • Added controls to adjust exposure, contrast, and sharpness. Access these from the Edit menu. All edits that you make are non-destructive – you can adjust and undo them unlimited times without affecting quality.
  • Share scans directly to Sketchfab by pressing Share > Post to Sketchfab from the viewer. Check out our video for a demo.
